What to include on a window cleaning invoice

  1. 1Count of panes or windows, and whether inside, outside or both were cleaned
  2. 2Screens, tracks and sills listed as add-ons
  3. 3High-access work using ladders, water-fed poles or lifts
  4. 4Hard water, paint or construction debris removal
  5. 5Visit date and the next scheduled cleaning
  6. 6Any panes that could not be reached or were already damaged

How window cleaners and window washing companies usually bill

  • Per pane or per window, with different prices for inside and outside
  • Flat price per visit for storefronts on a weekly or monthly route
  • Add-on prices for screens, tracks, skylights and hard water removal
  • Hourly or flat surcharge for high windows that need extra equipment
  • Minimum charge per visit for small jobs

Payment terms

Residential window cleaning is usually paid on the day of service, with the invoice sent once the work is checked. Storefront routes are often billed monthly with every visit listed, on Net 15 or due on receipt, and many cleaners keep a card on file for these accounts. Large commercial or post-construction jobs can justify a deposit and Net 30 terms with a PO number. If you note pre-existing damage like cracked panes or failed seals, put it on the invoice or work order so you are not blamed later.

General guidance, not legal or tax advice.

Common mistakes on window cleaning invoices

  • Quoting by the house without counting panes, French windows and skylights
  • Not charging extra for hard water or construction debris that takes much longer
  • Skipping notes on cracked or fogged glass found before cleaning
  • Letting monthly storefront accounts run unpaid for several visits

Window Cleaning invoice questions

How do window cleaners charge?

Most charge per pane or per window, with different rates for inside and outside, plus add-ons for screens, tracks and hard water removal. Storefronts are often a flat rate per visit.

Is window cleaning taxable?

Some states treat window cleaning as a taxable building maintenance service and others do not, and the answer can differ for homes and businesses. Check with your state revenue department.

How do I invoice a storefront window route?

Send one monthly invoice per client with each visit date and the per-visit price, or bill each visit if the client prefers. Card on file works well for small accounts.

Should I charge more for second-story windows?

Many cleaners do, because they take extra time and equipment such as ladders or water-fed poles. List them as a separate line so the client sees the difference.
