Frequently asked questions

Where do the rates come from?

Daily-updated open mid-market reference rates (by ExchangeRate-API). They're ideal for quoting, invoicing and sanity-checks; banks and payment processors apply their own spread on actual transfers, so you won't receive exactly this rate when sending money.

Which rate should I put on an invoice?

State the currency you actually want to be paid in, and if you show a conversion, label it "indicative" with the date. Better: invoice directly in the client's currency — BillingOtter supports multi-currency invoices.

How often do rates update?

Once a day at 00:00 UTC. For money-market trading precision you'd need a paid live feed — for business paperwork, daily reference rates are the standard.
